Melbourne is recognised as Australia's culinary capital and we are very excited to announce that South Yarra is set to become the city's next destination for food lovers when The Press Club Group, headed by George Calombaris, expand their restaurant empire at lilli.
In a major coup for Fridcorp and Claremont Street's burgeoning food, fashion and design precinct, Calombaris will open the group's new addition in the lilli laneway, providing residents and locals with his signature fare.
At just 31 years of age, Calombaris' culinary genius has seen him become a much talked about chef on the international cooking circuit. Owning three restaurants in Melbourne, his flagship Melbourne restaurant, The Press Club, was awarded The Age Good Food Guide 'Best New Restaurant 2008' with Calombaris named 'Chef of the Year 2008'. Most recently, Calombaris has been inspiring a new generation of chefs as a judge on Network Ten's immensely successful reality-cooking program, MasterChef.
Calombaris is just as excited as we are:
"We plan to deliver something very different for South Yarra and are really excited to be part of the new Claremont Street precinct which is becoming an important addition to Melbourne's food scene," he says.
"lilli will have all the ingredients we need to create a successful establishment where locals and the wider community can catch up over great food in a great space."
As well as George Calombaris, the Claremont Street precinct is also attracting big names in fashion, with renowned fashion boutique Le Louvre recently opening its new store in the area.
